DescriptionStudents in this course will learn first aid basics, including scene safety, finding the problem and calling for help. Students will also learn appropriate response to medical emergencies such as choking, breathing problems, and shock; injury emergencies such as bleeding, broken bones, and burns; and environmental emergencies including bites and stings and temperature related and exposure or ingestion of poison. This course is taught using the American Heart Association "Practice-While-Watching" technique allowing the instructor to observe students, provide feedback and guide skill acquisition. Delivery is in a modular format for flexibility. Course materials are included in the cost for the course. Books for this course are available in the DATC Bookstore or online at http://ebooks.heart.org/. Classroom copies will be provided for student use during the course. |
